SAVOR A SLICE OF SPAIN RIGHT IN BATAAN PHILIPPINES

Just a quick strut from the Victory Liner terminal, we checked into The Plaza Hotel on JP Rizal Street by 6:20 a.m.—serving major old-world energy. Think Spanish architecture, glowing façades at night, and a dancing fountain that low-key steals the spotlight. It’s giving romantic Europe without the jet lag.

Next stop: Plaza Mayor de Ciudad de Balanga along Aguirre Street—aka your next IG hard-launch backdrop. Cobblestone vibes, colonial aesthetics, and buildings that scream “Are we still in the Philippines?” Honestly, why book a flight to Spain when the visuals are already curated right here?

Right across? The Cathedral-Shrine Parish of Saint Joseph—an architectural slay with Parisian-coded details. But beyond the beauty, it holds history: during the Japanese occupation, it was used as an artillery base targeting Mt. Samat—where Filipino-American troops made their final stand. Beauty with depth? We love that.

By 11:00 a.m., we were en route to Mt. Samat in Pilar—jeepney + trike combo, very local chic. After a quick briefing and a ₱20 entry, we reached the iconic Memorial Cross—one of the tallest concrete crosses globally. The views?

Absolutely elite. Bataan, Corregidor, even Manila Bay on a clear day—main character moment unlocked. The shrine also flexes artworks from national icons like Napoleon Abueva and Maximo Vicente, blending history with high art. Culture and cardio? Say less.

We wrapped up the trek around 3:00 p.m.—tired but thriving, reflecting on history while descending like it’s a cinematic exit.

Still got energy? There’s more: zip-line thrills, Dunsulan Falls, Flaming Sword drama, WWII Museum deep dives, plus serene nature spots like Balanga Wetland Park and Tortugas Bird Site. Bataan is that girl—versatile and underrated.

And of course, we ended on a high note at Mesa Feliz Restaurant. Cozy, curated, and culinary excellence all in one. Their signature smoked meats? Slow-cooked 8–12 hours over mahogany or santol wood—rich, smoky, and unapologetically indulgent. Everything’s made from scratch, from sauces to thick-cut bacon. No shortcuts, just flavor.

This trip? A whole aesthetic, a history lesson, and a foodie dream rolled into one.
